A sharing by Helen Chang for this song:

When I first heard the Psalmist say to taste and see that Yahweh is good, the idea of knowing God’s goodness as compared to savouring food really came as a great surprise to me.

As I pondered on how the Psalmist was able to declare that, after all the many challenges and the ups and downs in life, God Yahweh is definitely always good, it then reflected on me as being a very ungrateful person. This is because I have often taken God’s mercy, compassion and provision in a rather superficial manner except for a few very special occasions!

Knowing that this is a serious problem in my attitudes and values, I asked God to deal with me and to help me change. As I read Revelation 2:7, 11, 17 etc. I took note that I am supposed to use my ears to listen far more carefully than I had thus far. In a similar manner, to use my eyes, my time and heart, indeed all my faculties as being enabled by God, to take note and to savour each and every kindness of God Yahweh!

Once I embarked on this way of relating to God’s goodness in and around me, I began to find much joy in being more appreciative of His mercies, even in times when challenges may overwhelm me. The secret lies in my focusing on Who He is and on His faithful goodness to me and not on the challenges in front of me. Amazingly, every thing would soon fall into its rightful perspective thus making the way forward filled with gratitude and courage.

Yes indeed, His patient endurance in dealing with me shows how amazingly good He is!
